TLDR version:

I will have cataract surgery sometime in the next three months, to replace the lenses in my eyes. Plus, avoided an accident this morning.

Longer Version:

Last April, 2022, I was diagnosed with cataracts. I’d asked before about them, as my brother had them and my grandmother as well, but no doctor ever told me I had them or needed to worry about them.

At the end of September last year, I felt as though my eyesight suddenly took a turn for the worse. My vision started getting blurry. Made an appointment to see the Ophthalmologist in November.

Then I came down with COVID on the first of November, and had to reschedule my appointment. Unfortunately, during the last couple of weeks, I’ve felt as though my eyes have taken another serious downturn. It’s just become very difficult to see the screen, particularly at night.

Talked with the eye doctor this morning. Everything has grown so bad in my eyes that I now qualify for cataract surgery.

Yes, over the course of nine months I’ve gone from pretty okay vision to it being occluded by cataracts. (My husband has always called me an over achiever…)

This is something of a relief for me. I’ve been having so many problems seeing my screen. It’s even thrown me off writing some mornings, as the words are still so fuzzy, even after I bump the resolution up higher.

I don’t have the surgeries actually scheduled yet. However, this doctor is so backed up with patients, when I asked, he admitted that yeah, it’ll probably be three months out. There are always cancelations, though, so I might get in a lot sooner.

I am fortunate enough that I can afford the good lenses, so that once the surgery is over, I’ll no longer need glasses. My brother had a two week wait between eye surgeries, so I figure I’ll have something like that as well.

I just need to put up with really bad vision for the next three months. Now that I have an end date, I know I can stubborn my way through this. However, it does mean that there will be days when I’m limiting my screen. I will get back to people as promptly as I can.

ION, I used up my allotment of luck this morning, on the drive into the doctor’s office.

It’s REALLY windy again. We’ve had a couple of bad gusts, so strong that they pushed the little greenhouse that’s sitting against the wall of TH2 out two feet.

This morning, I left the house around 6:30 AM. It was still dark out. I was going along a back road, pretty narrow, just one lane of traffic each direction.

Out of the corner of my right eye I saw something waving. Realized that was the power pole that was moving.

It started coming down. I gunned it, swerving into the approaching lane to avoid being hit by it.

It crashed directly behind the truck. For a moment, it was as bright as day. Then it was dark again and all I could see were sparks dancing along the road.

Fortunately, no one was directly behind me—they were a good fifty feet back, so were able to see the pole fall and stop in time.

If I’d been two seconds later, I either would have crashed into the pole or it would have landed on the truck.

As I said, I was extremely lucky that I did not have an accident this morning and that no one else was hurt.

I’ll be going back into town soon, to use someone else’s internet to do work. What are you up to today? Anything fun?
