Yeap — disappeared again.
But I’ve been busy! Really busy.
I’ve almost finished with the remodling in the kitchen. This past weekend I took up the old linolium floor and put down tile. Probably not this coming weekend, but the weekend after that I’ll tile the kitchen counters. I’m putting off doing anything about the bathroom until next year — just can’t face any more chaos.
So — come see what I’ve done!
The kitchen
The kitchen before I start anything. Yes, it really is that tiny. In the bottom corner you can see the stove. In the back, on the right, is the original ice box. |
 |
More Kitchen before
This is just more of the cupboards across the back wall. The fridge is right next to the stove. |
 |
Ice box stripped
One of the first things I did was strip the old ice box down to its original tin, then varnished it. I plan on putting in wooden shelves and making it a wine rack. (Yes, I have the door too, but I’m not reattaching it — takes up too much counter space opening and closing it.) |
 |
Stripped door
The original plan was to strip the paint off and just have wood. However, the wood turned out to be *really* ugly. It would have looked fine in a cabin somewhere — but it didn’t go with the rest of the place. |
 |
Stained wood
I even tried staining it — but it just wasn’t going to work out. |
 |
Copper doors
So I went back to plan B, which was to paint all the upper cabinets copper, while using cream everywhere else, for the lower cabinets, the walls, etc. (Remember I used the Ralph Lauren metallic gold in the living room and entrance way. Plus now there’s the tin as well.) |
 |
In between painting
The insides of many of the cupboards were red. I left the one at the top red, but did cream on the inside of the others, along with the ceiling (and new light up there as well.) |
 |
Coming together
Mostly back together — copper and cream, with the top ceiling molding done in pure white. |
 |
Floor removal
So now it’s time to do the floor — take up the *ugly* stuff that’s there. Yes, there were *two* coats of linolium on the floor. |
 |
Tile!
I still need to grout it, but it’s *so* much better. |

I love what you’ve done!
PS I think we chose the same tile. Mine replaced pepto bismol pink carpeting in all the bathrooms (the carpet was through the entire house, every single room all done in pepto bismol pink, but carpet in bathrooms? Euw!)
That Rocks!
That linoleum you had was common in 1976, an era almost, but not entirely, free of taste. Thank you for making the World a prettier place.
And I’m drooling over the icebox wine rack.
Wow, that’s a good change. I approve mightily of the tile.
Also, let me just tell you something weird. When I friended this journal, I did not know who you were–I found you on the white list and then we met in RL the next week (spooky, now that I think about it), and it still took me a while. Hahaha, I feel slow.
That’s awesome! I didn’t even know the white list existed. You rock.
AND I’m psychic! *hairflip*
Also, I’ve addicted my dad to Firefly. And we need the next episodes, stat 😀 😀

Nice!
I swear we had the same linoleum in my kitchen, except that mine was shades of brick red instead of yellow. It’s hardwood floor now.

Wow. Go you. I wondered if you got lost in a cupboard somewhere. 🙂
