Not too lazy a weekend.

I haven’t written in a week. Might have written some on Friday, but decided not to, and to just enjoy my day off instead.

Finished approximately 4000 words on Saturday. Was just exhausted, in that really good way that happens after a super intense writing session. Knew that would happen once I was well enough to write again — that the words would just flow and I’d lose hours.

Finished approximately 2500 words today (Sunday.) It was more difficult, as I’d imagined it would be, given how much I’d written the day before. Plus, I was switching POVs — Saturday was spent all in one character’s POV, then today, I had to start a new chapter in the other character’s POV. I don’t know why, but I always find making that switch very difficult to do. It’s much easier if there’s a day or so between finishing with one POV and starting with the next. I will hopefully spend the rest of this week finishing writing out this latest chapter, then typing them both up, so that on Saturday, when I fly to Mpls for the holidays, I’ll be able to just start writing the next chapter.

I had a long rambling thing on being sick and feeling depressed this last week, however, it got way too personal. Let’s just say that sometimes I get depressed, and when I do, I can’t write. It doesn’t happen often, it’s 90-95% chemical (because while I have a few niggling things that bother me, none of them are bad enough to actually generate the pit of black funk that I was in last week.) Because of better living through chemicals, the depressions don’t last long any more (this was only a week). And the funniest thing is — now, here, on the other side, I can only vaguely remember being depressed. I know it happened, but I’m just not there any more. At all.

  1. I don’t mention this every time you post a writing update, but — what you said when you started this novel? And what you’ve mentioned about the content — plot, characters, structure, etc. — as you’ve gone along? I’m looking forward to reading it. When I see your “this many words” updates I give a little mental cheer.

    1. Thank you — that encouragement is much appreciated. Very very much.

My goal is to have this novel to my agent just before I leave for WisCon. I wish it could be sooner, but I don’t think I can do the rewrite any faster than that. Not and produce something that’s not just saleable, but hopefully will blow the socks off her. *G*

      So again, thank you.

  2. ::Hug on s:: Sorry you had such a bad week 🙂 You should when you feel funky on occasion call. We live right around the corner and need excuses to hang out sometimes…..(206)954-1240 is my cell. Sometime just doing something xmas or fun can be cool too. Congrats on the words…MAybe tonight if you want an excues to hang out and write bridge and I may go later and do work 🙂

    1. Thanks for the offer! I may take you up on it. See — I love to go out to dinner. And while I don’t mind (and sometimes even enjoy) going out on my own, sometimes it would be nice to have other people to eat with as well. . .

I’ll be out of town from the 23rd through the 30th, so it’ll probably be next year.

      Take care!

So happy that we got to know each other better this year. And would love it if you could come up next year.
