I’d like to introduce everyone to the new addition to my life — Kiera.
(There are pictures behind the cut)
Kiera was a shelter kitty — I got her from one of the no-kill cat shelters here. They figure she’s about one and a half years old. Her former people moved out of their apartment and just left her behind. I do *not* understand people like this.
When she first came home with me, she was very scared. It took her a long time before she trusted me. Again, I don’t know what her former owners did to her, but they really aren’t my favorite people. I kept her closed up in the bathroom until she felt safe enough to come out from under the bathtub, safe enough to just sit there when I went in. (For a few days all I saw of her was her hind leg as she disappeared.) She’s actually quite a loving cat, she really likes to be pet. She doesn’t like to be held, but I figure that there’s a chance she might turn into a lap kitty at some point. She likes her belly scratched, and when she’s really relaxed, lets go with almost a trilling purr. Mostly, though, she’s very quiet — I’ve only heard her meow one time, at night.
She started sneezing sometime soon after she came home with me — typical for a cat from a shelter. But her cold got much worse, and she started bobbing her head when she swallowed, as if it hurt her. I got some antibiotics from the vet. She stopped eating. Eventually I had to take her back to the vet, who put her on an IV drip for a day to rehydrate her.
She’s finally mostly better. She doesn’t trust me again, because of the horrible tortourous things that I’ve had to do to her, like put drops in her eyes, as well as give her antibiotics. I’m hoping that in a week or she’ll have forgotten the icky things and only remember the good things, like brushing and sitting in the sunshine and watching the birds in the tree just outside the window while sitting on her perch. (There’s a bird feeder there that gets regular visitors.)
So — here’s Princess Kiera!
Awww, look at her, all squint-eyed and pretty!
Also *looks around* What happa to your layout?
She really is so very pretty.
And the layout for this LJ hasn’t changed since I started it. . . perhaps you’re’ thinking of another LJ?

That’s what made me wonder — when I clicked the link, it was layout-less, instead of the grey thing that was usually there? *goes to check again*
She’s so sweet. Yay for taking in a kitty who needed a home. You’re a good kitty mommy.
She is very sweet. And I’m trying to be a good kitty mommy, that is, you know, when she doesn’t think I’m torturing her with the eye drops and the antibiotics. . .
Kitty!
Exactly! Kitty!
She’s beautiful!
You’re a wonderful person for taking her from a shelter and trying to make up for everything her previous owners did to her.
Isn’t she? She’s all stretched out on her perch right now, legs hanging off in a couple of different directions, exceedingly cute.
I don’t know if I’m a good person or not — may just be selfish in wanting a kitty who will love me. . .
Wait, nevermind, I’m a *moron*. I got confused. Sorry!!
::snickers::
Figured that’s what happened.
::hugs and smooches your cute self::
Pretty cat! She’ll learn to trust you.
Skippy loves having his head skritched, but doesn’t like belly rubs. He’ll sit next to you, but not for long, and he’s rarely a lap cat. He doesn’t like being picked up, either. It must be a personality thing.
And good for taking a cat from a shelter. Yeah!
Thanks! She is a very pretty cat. She’s curled up in her castle right now. Very cute.
My cat in Wyoming didn’t care for her belly rubbed at all. My friend had a cat who liked his arm pits rubbed (yeah, strange cat.) Cats generally have so much personality, it doesn’t surprise me that they have preferences for how and where they like to be pet and scratched.
