writing and GIP!

This morning’s writing prompt was, “Wearing that ring. . .” It was an interesting process this morning. I started out by describing the ring that I currently always wear on my thumb. After a couple of paragraphs I figured out that it was a man, Tony, who was wearing it. Only it was a pinky ring, the stone a little larger. Then there was what the stone in the ring meant, how it symbolized parts of his life. About halfway through the session I discovered where the story was going. I didn’t have time to actually write out the end — wrote as much of the story as I could then had to just outline the last 5 minutes or so — about how that ring and the stone and what they symbolized worked against the magic that he tried to join in — and how for the rest of his life he was never sure if that was good or not.

I made the icon I’m using. I wanted a writing icon, something with pens in it. I went looking but didn’t see any good free pictures of pens. Then I thought — hey! I have a digital camera. And I have pens. Why don’t I take my own picture? So I did.

The blank notebook (which has the word “destiny” written across the bottom of it) was my mother’s. (She bought a lot of blank books that she never used.) The two pens were both hers as well. It symbolizes the past and the future colliding for me, as well as writing and destiny and all that good stuff.
