Updates

I’ve been working hard on the novel — finished typing chapter 14, started chapter 15, will do more typing tonight.

Official word count meter thingy:

I’ve been cooking more as well. Made chicken stew and oatmeal cookies. Want to bake bread, and maybe some oatmeal scones (or something more vaguely healthy for breakfasts.) I adore my new oven, and I feel safe using it. I also love my new fridge, and everything stays cold! Or frozen! All the time! (I also made hummus this week. Yum.)

Next week I’m in SF for the day job. It’s not possible for me to get as much writing done while I’m there–I’m too exhausted from all the work. But I’ll still push, and will get as much done as I can.

One of my life challenges is to balance between doing and being, between work and play. I’m taking belly dancing this quarter at the community college as a way to play more. I also bought some materials for making earrings so I can play more, and will probably take a wire wrapping class as well. Not everything I make has to be pretty or precise.

Though I’ve been active every day, I’ve also made a very conscious effort to take time off every day as well. I got addicted to Sudoku on holiday. I’m not sure why that’s such a refreshing break for me, but it is.

  1. Breakfast idea: I saw Alton Brown’s breakfast smoothie on Good Eats this week, and got around to trying it this morning. I liked it, and it gave me something naturally sweet to have instead of drinking a soda as breakfast. Recipe is here.
