Yes, it’s Tuesday. That means Tuesday night tea and writing!
Tonight, I’d like to finish chapter 15. I got about halfway through it this weekend. This chapter requires a lot of rewriting, every section, in fact. Plus, every time I get into a section I realize that it’s spawning additional rewrites in other chapters that I then have to go do. I’m not whining — I love this chapter like every other chapter — but it’s a lot more work than I thought it would be. It’s going to end up being another monster chapter I’m afraid, though. Most of my chapters weigh in at about 5000. This one will probably top 7000. But it’s good! Things are happening! The last three chapters are a mix of talking and action. This is an action chapter.
I’m really, really, *really* busy with the new job. But I am enjoying it a lot. Lots of learning of new things. As well as flailing because I don’t know everything yet. I just need to get over that hump between learning and doing. I did a few things last week that I know were useful and good. I’d like to do a few more this week.
I hope that everyone is well and happy. I haven’t looked at my FL in a while, I’m afraid.
I will be at Norwescon this weekend. I’m doing the Broad Universe rapid-fire reading on Saturday night at 6 PM. That’s my only scheduled panel. I’ll get to the con Friday night, and will be there for most of the day on Saturday. Hope to see ya’ll there!
I’m glad you’re enjoying your new job, too! I’m loving mine but am reeling, like you, from all the things to learn. I don’t know how you find time to re-write with the new job! I need to work on that.
The rewrites are really, *really* slow right now. But I have my Tuesday nights, which are just scheduled time. Tonight, Thursday, I’m also doing rewrites. And I’ll have sometime on Sunday. I want to finish this book. The new job is new! shiny! But the book — the book is something special too. And I define myself as a writer: which, to me, means writing (a writer writes.) It isn’t necessarily everyone’s definition, but it is my self definition, and it’s very important to me that I maintain my sense of self in this new situation.
Which I guess is a long-winded way of saying that the novel’s too important to let go of, it’s worth the effort and the discipline.
Good luck to you and your new position!
Looking forward to seeing you at Norwescon. 🙂
I’m really looking forward to seeing you as well! I’ll be there sometime Friday after work.
