Random update

I finished handwriting chapter eleven this morning. It’s 36 handwritten pages, which should be right around 6000 words when I type it up.

Before I wrote I did plotting, figuring out the key scenes of chapter twelve, as well as chapter thirteen. I still have more plotting to do of chapters thirteen and fourteen, but it’s all coming together nicely. Chapter fifteen is still pretty much a black box, “Something brilliant happens here.” I’m not worried about it — I trust my brain and my process.

It was embarrassing to finish chapter eleven in public. The end is a very emotional scene, so there I sat at the restaurant, tears streaming down my face while I scribbled furiously. But not embarrassing enough for me to not do it again. The next two chapters both have a couple of big, emotional, payoff scenes. And chances are, I’ll either start or end them in public. *sigh*

It’s amazing how wiped out I am from writing this morning — 3000 words in about 3 hours — 18 handwritten pages. I never know what to do with myself when I reach this point, strung out and hyper, exhausted and tense. Think I’ll go for a walk.

Happy Halloween!

  1. good to know i’m not the only one that cries like that. 🙂 i admire people who can do the writing by hand thing. i’m convinced one ends up with cleaner more powerful prose — but am not ready to try it yet. 3,000 words in 3 hours. go you!!!

    1. It never occurred to me that I might be the only one who cried like that. I don’t know if I’ll ever effect my readers that way. . . But here’s hoping!

I used to type out everything. But then my life imploded and I stopped writing for a couple of years. I needed to find a way to kick start my brain again, and so I tried changing my process completely. I continue to tweak my process, but right now, everything has to be handwritten first.
