I finished typing up chapters 13 and 14 today. Here’s the official word count for the novel so far:

Since I’m averaging about 5000 words per chapter, and I only have three chapters left, that means that the first draft of the novel is only going to be about 92,000 words or so.…
That end of the year thing
The end of this year has been so much better than the start.
I was horrifically sick on New Year’s — I’d caught my dad’s stomach flu, and I ended up missing a New Year’s bash (luckily I was able to sell my ticket.)…
Progress
I was invited to a lovely knitting (and other hand-work) party tonight. I haven’t knit for a long time. I’m doing a scarf, just for fun, using a simple scallop pattern and variegated yarn. I stopped a couple of times during the writing today, once to go get the yarn, once to start the project (and eat dinner.)…

I’ve finished the marked comments for chapters three and four. I know that I need to do more rewriting, more world-building stuff in chapter four. But I believe chapter three is finished, and I’m probably going to send it to people tomorrow.…
That writing than
I didn’t write this morning. I suspect that the coffee I received the night before was not actually decaf, so I didn’t sleep at all.
Tonight I went back out to a coffee shop, though, and finished typing up chapter five.…
General update
I didn’t write this morning — various reasons, including nightmares the night before, waking up with a horrible pressure headache just behind my eyes and feeling like I was 1000 years old. I did go to a coffee shop this evening and started typing up what I’d written by long-hand.…
Uhm, yeah. That thing.
I did another 11 1/2 pages by long hand today. I figure that brings the total for chapter 5 up to about 4000 words. It will probably grow longer — just sitting here, thinking about it, I can already spot a couple of parts that need significantly more verbage.…

Writing went a bit slower this morning. I think it went so quickly last night because I was merely writing out a section that I’d already thought a lot about, and had written in my head, more than once, while this morning I was in the section beyond that.…
