Temperatures have been mostly moderate, with a few hots days thrown in there. Today will be hot, tomorrow hotter, then it will go back to moderate again. I like this sort of weather.
I’ve been finishing up my knitting projects, recently. There’s a group that gets together twice a month at the library to do handwork together. I went last week and wove in the ends on two different projects, then started taking apart a third.
This week, I finished taking that project apart, as well as another. So I had to break out the yarn winder.
Then, a friend of mine gave me some lovely yarn that’s in skeins, not balls. That meant breaking out the reeler (also called a yarn swift) and doing the entire production.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with what I’m talking about, here are pictures!
On the left is a skein of yarn. On the right is a ball of yarn. The left is difficult to work with, it’s just a collection of tidy loops. The ball, on the other hand, is really easy to work with.
Here’s the reeler. This is holding the skein of yarn. Don’t know if you’ve ever seen old-fashioned movies where people are winding a ball of yarn by hand, and they have a friend who’s got the skein of yarn stretched out between their hands.
Then this is the winder. It makes beautiful balls of yarn. I went looking on Amazon. The ones they make today look pretty much identical to the one I have. They also have electric versions (of course).
I’m starting off with making a cardigan, but as I have a lot of this yarn, I’m sure I’ll end up making lots of things with it. Stay tuned!
In other news, I’ve spent much of this week creating what’s called a landing page for the store.
When I’d first heard of landing pages, I thought they weren’t really applicable to us.
I have literally hundreds of books in my shop. About sixty series between Blaze and I (I just went and counted). Why would I focus on a single property?
We’re still doing the AMMO class (Author Marketing Mastery through Optimization). It’s been a lot of work. The good news is that I’m optimistic that this work will pay off in the end.
So, back to the landing page. What we’re doing for the class makes more sense to me. We’re creating a landing page for what they call a “door busting” deal. Six books for one low price! Just for today!
It’s a lot more sales-y than I’m used to. But I think I can keep it real and make it work for us.
This page is kind of “hidden.” It isn’t easily viewable on our site. We will be sending people there from our ads, as well as doing A/B testing.
One of the landing pages I’ve created is experience focused. What kind of experience is the reader going to get?
The other is deal focused. How much of a great deal is the reader going to get?
How many people will make it through the page and actually click on the buy button? That remains to be seen. But as I said, I’m optimistic about our odds.

A cozy fantasy tale about ice, fire, love, and snow cones!
When El the Ice Elf asks Mara the fire elemental to marry her, she expects an immediate YES!
However, a distinct maybe hangs between them.
Not due to a lack of love, but a lack of tradition.
The Elves have oodles of ceremonies to choose from.
As a fire elemental, Mara is singular. She doesn’t know any other fire elementals. She has no true kin. She does want to get married…but the ceremony has to have meaning for both of them.
El vows to go with Mara to the ends of the world to find rites for Mara to call her own.
Follow this unlikely couple as they defined themselves, their rituals, and their love in the cozy fantasy sequel to The Ice Elf & The Snow Cone.
