Good day!

It’s been a rough week. This makes me really grateful for all the work I’ve been doing to lower my stress levels.

When I was at the doctor’s office, they took my blood pressure. It was low, 95/65. Plus, while I was sitting there, I was able to get my resting heartrate down to 65.

This is all due to the work I’ve been doing on my stress levels. I’m rather pleased that my blood pressure has gone pretty low as a result.

I’m planning on taking the store live today, but that go/no go decision point won’t happen until sometime this afternoon. I’m not 100%, and it’s going to depend on how much brain I have. I’m finally better today than I have been, so I’m hopeful.

In addition, there’s currently an emergency going on in Portland, and I may be leaving tomorrow to go help my niece.

I’ve been writing up a Business for Breakfast book on Shopify Vs. WooCommerce. I’m about 8K in, and it’s probably 12K. I’ll still finish it this week, even if I end up going to Portland.

I’ve been having a lot of fun writing this up. I’ve read a lot of compare/contrast articles about the two platforms. Very few people seem to have an open mind about it. I understand that all the pro-Shopify people are making money from referral links, The WooCommerce people might be as well.

However, most (all?) of the pro-Shopify people haven’t looked at the most recent version of WooCommerce. A lot of the functionality that they claim is missing from the platform is built-in now. Or it’s available using a free plugin.

Plus, while I see people handwave and say, “Oh, Shopify takes care of all of that for you!” they’re wrong.

For example, if you have any custom code that you’ve added to your site, Shopify will wipe that out with its next update. And no, you cannot opt out of those updates. So there is maintenance that you need to do around upgrades. Plus, if you’re using SSL with your Shopify domain, guess what? You need to make sure that’s updated. Shopify won’t take care of that for you. And so on.

I’m still excited to have moved to a different platform. I still think that once the store is operational, we’ll make more sales from it. We’ll see, though.

I leave you with a picture of one of the roses on the property. It might be a single-petal rose, and not look that pretty, but OMG you can smell it from three feet away.

Cheers!

Leah

PS. As soon as the store goes live I’ll send out links and discount coupons, etc.
