Once more, into the brink…
It’s been an emotional weekend for me. Most of the bad stuff is over, though.
Today (Sunday) is our annual BBQ/Artists’ Colony. Don’t know how many people will actually show up. But there will be lots of MEAT, as I’ve cooked a whole brisket (though it was a small one) as well as a pork shoulder. I’ll cook hamburgers and hot dogs to order. People will be bringing appetizers, side dishes, and desserts. (I prefer to hold a pot-tell as opposed to a potluck.) Plus their own drinks.
We’ve held the BBQ in our front yard, as well as in the backyard for the last few years. Today, we’re holding it kind of in the side yard, over by TH2, close to the barn and the Tiny Great Hall.
I’m looking forward to seeing my friends, talking with people, and just in general, forgetting all the other worries.
Here’s the setup, before the party actually takes place.
I have a folded up camp chair that lives on my porch. As I have a small porch, I don’t really have room for a chair that doesn’t fold up and get put away.
Last week, when I unfolded my chair, I found this guy.
He did NOT want to leave my chair. He kept holding on and jumping away from my fingers trying to flick him off. Finally managed to get him off, into the grass a few feet away.
I’d unfolded my chair so that I could sit on it and chat with my niece. However, about fifteen minutes into my conversation, guess who jumped onto my foot? Then leaped from there back onto the leg of the chair?
We had another battle with me trying to get him off, but this time, he didn’t come back while I was still talking.
The next time I unfolded my chair, you guessed it, he was there again.
And the next time. And the next. And the time my husband unfolded the chair to sit on it. Pretty much every day for a week.
I’m not sure why he’s decided that my chair is his comfy place. It isn’t that shaded or cool in the afternoon. It certainly isn’t wet.
We’ll see if he comes back after the party. Honestly, though, he needs to find a new home.
And I guess that’s all from me for today.
