Greetings!

It’s another lovely morning here at the property. The nights are still cool, despite the high eighties/low nineties that it gets to during the day. Because we have so much green space, it stays cooler up here during the day, until the sun comes out and really warms up the place. So I’m sitting outside, under the shade of the front porch of TH2, writing this Monday morning.

Fruit in the orchard is slowly starting to ripen. The cherries are all gone, and we only got a few of them. Now, it’s time for the plums. The apple trees are covered in green fruit that won’t ripen for a few weeks. Ditto on the grapes. We’ll have a few figs, as we generally do.

We cut back the blueberry bushes last year. We’ll only get a little fruit from those plants this year. Next year, they should be back to full production.

In the meanwhile, here are some of the Japanese plums that are ripening currently. As well as some red huckleberries. (We have large stands of mature red huckleberries. They are one of the slowest growing fruit trees around, and can take 10-15 years to reach maturity.)
This last weekend was the annual Art Colony BBQ. Great people, great food, great fun. Probably had between 35-40 people show up.

We’ve been having these since 2017 or so. For the first time, we had strangers crash the party. We put out signs at the bottom of the hill, as well as on the main road, pointing people to the Art Colony.

So these two women who are driving by see the sign and say, huh. We’re artists. Maybe it’s an art walk or an art show or something.

They hadn’t been expecting a party/BBQ.

Of course, we welcomed them. Introduced them around. Urged them to enjoy the food and the company. They got along with everyone really well, as they were artists, and everyone else was an artist. Great fun.

Today, I’m recovering from the party. Breathing in the stillness. Taking it easy. I don’t have to go down to Portland this week. (Might not have to go down this month.) So I have some breathing space, which I desperately needed.

I hope your summer is going well. Mine appears to be picking up.

Cheers!

Leah
During the month of August, Pacific Force is on sale, but only in the Knotted Road Press store. It's the first of two books, and there will be more!
