This wasn’t the best week for me. I’m assuming it wasn’t the best week for many of you as well. Still dealing with the stress and fallout.
I did try to make chocolates this week.
First, I tried using the silicon molds. Utter failure. Didn’t put in enough chocolate so they cracked and broke to pieces when I tried unmolding them.
Figured I’d just make some truffles. Was only half successful with those.
I had some left over strawberries that I soaked overnight in coconut milk. Then I pureed that, strained the mixture, and added it to my semi-melted chocolate.
The dark chocolate strawberry turned out nice. There is a subtle flavor of strawberry at the end.
The blond chocolate strawberry turned into a soft ganache that won’t harden up enough to make truffles out of. So we’re just eating it with a spoon. That’s all I can do.
I’m writing this on a Sunday, as I generally do. In about three hours we’re leaving for the airport, flying off to Las Vegas and the Author Nation convention. (If you’re going, please stop by and say hello! I have panels Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.)
This is me. Picture was taken in February but I haven’t changed.
Mostly this convention is writers talking with other writers. The last day, Friday, is the RAVE event which is a huge signing event. Readers could buy their books ahead of time, pick them up at the convention and have the writers sign them.
Both Blaze and I are part of RAVE, though I don’t believe I will have many readers who will buy my books, or have me sign them. I’ve been wrong before, so you never know.
We fly back late Friday night, get to spend the night in my own bed. Then Saturday night is the Wine Walk in Enumclaw. (Again, if you’re around, we’d love to see you!) I have to bring my own books to that, but that’s okay, since it’s local and we’ll just drive there.
Then it’s home and collapse and be a hermit as much as I can for a week or more.
I’m nervous? Excited? Concerned? Pleased? With all that’s going on. Probably all of that, and more.
I’ve been using an app produced by the center for emotional intelligence, called “How We Feel.” (www.howwefeel.org) I have been very appreciative of how I regularly stop, now, and at least twice a day, check in with how I’m doing. I also really like how well they’ve defined the different feelings, so I can now more accurately figure out what I’m feeling. Though sometimes, like today, I want to choose more than one emotion.
And I guess that’s about it from me this week. Hopefully I’ll be more focused next week.

Hey! It's November! Ice & Berries is coming out SOON. If you get it from the KRP store, it's available NOW. Everywhere else, it won't come out until November 21st. So get yours today!
A cozy fantasy tale of friendship, work, and going out into the world. Oh, and snow cones!
When the Ice Elf Elbriarien Itamar—or just El, for short—fails to get her Mage Mark after her apprenticeship, she decides to leave the frozen north and head south.
Someplace where snow doesn't stay piled up in corners during the heat of summer. Maybe walk barefoot in the sand next to the ocean. Perhaps even chuck out all her learning and take work in a bar. (A fate worse than death, at least according to her parents.)
However, without her Mage Mark, El cannot legally practice spells or do complicated magic. Just little things, cantrips native to her Ice Elf heritage.
Join her as she makes her way in a new life and a new city, finding friends, business opportunities, a love of snow cones, and perhaps, if she's lucky, a sapphic love as well.

To celebrate the publication of my new cozy fantasy novel, my first cozy fantasy novel is now on sale for $0.99!
The spell to transform Killian the champion fails. Instead of a worm, he’s transformed into a wyrm. Swell. Now what? Thus begins the story of Talon the dragon and his eventual battle with a god. Or something like that. It’s a lovely cozy fantasy filled with humor, found family, gods and myths, and breaking of the fourth wall.
