June is almost here. Does that mean summer in the PNW? No, not necessarily. May can (and has been) beautiful. However, we frequently have what we refer to as “June-uary.” The weather is cold and rainy and you figure summer is never going to show up.
Then, often on the weekend of July 4th, the sun shows up. And it stays up. And we don’t see rain again until September.
I’m more concerned about this than usual because I have an outdoor event this coming Saturday. The Kent Nerd Party, which is held in downtown Kent, from noon to 7 PM.
I keep checking the weather. Maybe it will rain. Maybe it won’t. Maybe it will be cloudy but cool.
Fortunately, I have a plan, and a lay out for my booth, to keep the book as protected from the elements as possible. For example, we always collect the bags we get from the grocery store. At least 99% of the time we bring our own. Occasionally, though, we’ll forget or pick up more than what we can carry. So it takes a while to fille the bag of bags with bags (snicker). Right now, though, it’s mostly full. And it’s going with me to the event.
Will I sell as many books given the weather? Who knows? This is all a huge experiment.
I only have a couple of things to do before the event. The main one is to paint the edges of more book as I sold most of ones I’d done at the last event.

My golden chain tree was gorgeous this year, but the flowers are finished. Here’s a couple of pictures of it while it was still in full bloom:

One of my plants that I’ve had for YEARS is my rose-scented geranium. It’s an indoor plant that’s always incredibly happy. I have to regularly cut it back. One year, for the annual summer BBQ, I ended up giving away rooted pieces of it.
This geranium is very strongly scented. All parts of a scented geranium are edible: the leaves, the stems, the branches, and the flowers. I regularly dry the leaves and use them in my tea for a hint of floral. (Have to be careful though, or my tea will end up tasting like soap.)
Last year, I planted a couple of the parts I cut off from the main plant. They won’t survive the winter out in the open. However, the winter was mild enough that they did make it in the little greenhouse that I have on the porch.
As this geranium is scented, it doesn’t put out really pretty flowers. Most years, the indoor plant doesn’t bloom. However, the two outside decided that they were inspired (or something) and so they both bloomed.
The blossoms have very little scent, particularly compared to the leaves. Still, I appreciate every bit of flowering that I have in my yard.
As some of y’all may have seen, I’ve put my Patreon on hiatus for a while. I’m really glad I did this, as June is going to be SO hectic. I’m going to try to blog more instead. So feel free to either follow me on Facebook, on Bluesky, or you can even follow the blog itself, to see what I’m chatting about.
And I think that’s it for today! How is the start of your summer going? Any big plans?

They say history doesn't repeat itself, but it will frequently rhyme.
However, what about crimes that get repeated? How are they similar to the original? How are they different? And why?

The devil is in the details, after all.

Come see what the syndicate members of MCM have done with crimes that riff off of events from the past.
