Good afternoon!

No bears this week, so yay! However, for the first time in over a year, possibly two, a squirrel jumped from the fence onto the front feeder. So I had to change around feeders, put the anti-squirrel feeder up there, as well as change over all the suet to be the hot stuff that the squirrels don’t like. (The bears don’t like it either.)

I thought I’d show y’all some of what’s going on here. The grapes, apples, and aronia are all just about ready to be harvested. What will we do with them? Make shrub. That’s become my favorite drink. I add a little bit of shrub—maybe not even a tablespoon—to my water bottles. I am so much better about actually drinking my water if it’s flavored.

We’re also planning on making not just apple cider, but hard cider, from the apples. Gonna be some work, but it’ll be worth it.

We’ve been updating an old structure on the property. The original barn (built by the previous owner) has three bays remaining in it. The first and the third were horse stables. The second one was a storage unit. It’s the only one of the three with a full door. The other two just have half doors.

As y’all may recall, I have not one tiny house, but two. (TH1 and TH2. The front of the old barn was demolished and made into TH2.)

It was about time we built Blaze a man-cave, right? Or as we’ve been referring to it, the Tiny Great Hall (TGH). Which is part of the reason for making our own hard cider…

So while I’ve been going to the gym, that may stop for a couple of weeks. We’ve taken out the (rotting) wooden floor in stall three and taken it down to dirt. This week, we’ll get two yards of gravel (about 4400 pounds of stones) delivered. Then, Blaze and I will have to shift it from where it’s dumped into the structure. It will become the foundation for the room.

Shifting that much rock is a good enough workout, as far as I’m concerned.

Then, we’ll have to build up the front wall and put in a new door. After that, we’ll tile the floor. (Again, a week without much gym time because tiling is its own workout.)

We’ve already run electrical wire. Will just have to connect up everything, decorate the walls, and yeah. Almost there.

Soft opening planned for mid-October. There will be many (many!) pictures at that point.

Cheers!

Leah
