After a week of rain, it’s bright and sunny today. Cold too. But while there was flooding in some parts of western Washington due to the rain, I was actually grateful for it. It melted all the snow. There are still a couple of patches of it, but mostly it’s gone. And that, quite frankly, makes me happy.
As this is the last week of the month, I get to tell you about one of the books that I’ve written. This happens to be the book that’s on sale this month as well.
Borrowed Time started off as a short story. I wrote it for Uncollected Anthology, for the issue “Spells Gone Awry.” It wasn’t until I was nearing the end of it that I realized that it wasn’t actually a short story but a novel. I came up with an ending, but I knew that it wasn’t satisfying.
I always wanted to write the actual novel. Eventually, an opportunity came that allowed me to do that, so I did.
Chapter one contains the majority of the short story. Just the end of it changed. 95% of it didn’t, though.
I really like this novel. Yes, while I could possibly do a second in this universe, and I have ideas for what to do, I’ve never felt the inclination to do so.
The novel is structured based on the nine lives of a cat. It’s all about what we sacrifice for what we know is right, as well as for our families. While there are some dark scenes in this novel, there’s also a lot of snark between the two sisters (from the POV of the cat, who’s the main character) as well as lighter times, as a human tries to navigate what it means to now run around on four limbs instead of two.
Borrowed Time is available until the end of March for just $0.99 at the Knotted Road Press store. And if you’d like to read a sample of the novel, I’ve created one here:

ION, I came down with a stomach flu last week, passed along to me from my lovely husband. (Not actually angry about it—generally speaking, I am the one who picks up things and passes them along to him.)
What it has meant is that I’ve had a lot of time sitting on the couch reading and knitting.
I finished my Melt the Ice hat, with the Star Wars rebellion symbols. However, I messed up the top of it, and I didn’t feel like going back and fixing it. So here’s an almost Melt the Ice hat.

In addition, I started on this scarf some time ago. I didn’t knit on it consistently. I finally realized that I was tired of it and just wanted to be finished with it. So I bound it off, figuring that it was long enough.
This scarf still needs to be blocked. However, I won’t do that until April.
As I’ve mentioned before, I work much better with carrots than with sticks. In April, I’ll do the quarterly reconciliation for the business. I now give myself a BIG treat for doing the taxes. I’ve come to realize that buying knitting supplies is the perfect carrot. It’s something I wouldn’t necessarily just buy for myself, because it’s an extravagance. Yet, I’ll also use these supplies constantly.
This month, I’m buying myself foam rubber mats that you can lock together. Something like this:
And that’s it for me for this week. What are you currently working on?
Los Angeles. The city that never sleeps.
These stories take inspiration from those hard-boiled detectives of yore, with broken noses and steely eyes. The white knight you could rely on because the rest of the world had soured like a rotten apple. Even if he (or she) didn’t follow the rules.
Or maybe because they broke them in order to see justice done.

Come see what the MCM Syndicate has to say about these types of “heroes” as we enter our seventh year of publication.

And now for something a little different...

For the month of March, Borrowed Time, a contemporary fantasy stand-alone novel by Leah R Cutter, is on sale for $0.99!
Nightmares of drowning crowd Merilee's sleep. Deep, dark, endless water.
They must mean something. She is a witch, after all.
When three men break into her house, Merilee casts a transformation spell to escape.
However, after turning herself into a cat, she discovers she can't change back.
Worse things threaten not just her, but her older sister.
Possibly nine lives won't be enough when dealing with dark magic.
Borrowed Time--a contemporary fantasy from Leah R Cutter--explores what it means to be family, sisters, as well transforming into a superb specimen of a feline.
Come enjoy the twists and turns of magic and a skewed world that Leah R Cutter excels at bringing to life!
