Hey there –

We recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of the death of my cat, Kiera. She was my faithful companion for 18.5 years.

I spent time in November mourning her loss. I chatted at her, telling her that I missed her, and so on. On the actual anniversary date, my husband and I went out to breakfast and kind held another wake. She had such a big personality, enough to fill up both our houses and our hearts. We told stories all morning.

Now, it’s been more than a year since I lost my kitty. I still mourn her loss, but with that first anniversary under my belt, it’s a little easier.

I made a Christmas tree ornament from pictures that I took of her, then printed. Seriously, she was so opinionated.

I’m currently planning on leaning into the writing for the month of December. I’m going to finish the novel I’m working on shortly. (I figure there’s only three chapters left, about 5000 words.) Then I have a couple of short stories to write.

Then…I’m going to start writing the next novel. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish it, not unless I do some serious marathoning. Which I might do the week of Christmas. It would be lovely to finish off another novel this year. We’ll see, though. I can only push at the writing so much. It needs to remain a joy, and not work.

I recently bought a new chair for my writing desk, which has been absolutely lovely. I also have tried standing up a couple of times, just to see if I can get back into that habit, of standing while writing. It’s going to be a slow readjustment, but I think it’s time for me to get back into that.

AFAIK, I’m not going to Portland this month, so I have lots of time to write and do other things.

Like read! I’ve finished 58 novels this year, and am about halfway finished with #59. Would like to make it to 60 this year. It might be the only year I read that much. Then again, this hasn’t been the best of years.

I am seriously looking forward to this year being over, to starting anew.

Here’s to next year being better.

Cheers!

Leah
Hey! It's December! Ice & Berries is now generally available!
Here's the blurb:
A cozy fantasy tale of friendship, work, and going out into the world. Oh, and snow cones!

When the Ice Elf Elbriarien Itamar—or just El, for short—fails to get her Mage Mark after her apprenticeship, she decides to leave the frozen north and head south.

Someplace where snow doesn't stay piled up in corners during the heat of summer. Maybe walk barefoot in the sand next to the ocean. Perhaps even chuck out all her learning and take work in a bar. (A fate worse than death, at least according to her parents.)

However, without her Mage Mark, El cannot legally practice spells or do complicated magic. Just little things, cantrips native to her Ice Elf heritage.

Join her as she makes her way in a new life and a new city, finding friends, business opportunities, a love of snow cones, and perhaps, if she's lucky, a sapphic love as well.

To celebrate the publication of my new cozy fantasy novel, my first cozy fantasy novel is now on sale for $0.99!

About the book:
The spell to transform Killian the champion fails. Instead of a worm, he’s transformed into a wyrm. Swell. Now what? Thus begins the story of Talon the dragon and his eventual battle with a god. Or something like that. It’s a lovely cozy fantasy filled with humor, found family, gods and myths, and breaking of the fourth wall.
