Yes, it’s that newsletter time again.

Remember that stupid Northern Flicker who’s been pecking at my door and at my windows? I think, perhaps, maybe, he’s taken the hint.

I barricade my door every day so he won’t sit at the base of it and peck the glass. I’ve put up tape on the screens, next to the glass, so he can’t fly up and hang off the screen so he can peck at the glass.

The other place he likes to peck is on the mental chimney for the wood burning stove, on the roof of the main house. We saw him hanging out there with a second, smaller Northern Flicker and decided that was it. He was teaching another bird how to peck at our house. So I made a “skirt” out of black neoprene, and used Velcro to drape it over the base of the chimney.

I tried removing the barricade last week. He showed up that morning. Don’t know how long I’ll have to keep it up. I hear him almost every morning, crying mournfully that we’re meanies and have taken away all his fun.

He’ll just have to find someplace else to peck.

I’m thinking about where I’m going with this newsletter in terms of next year. I don’t sell anything from this newsletter. There’s no spike in sales when I announce a new book. So I’m considering shutting this newsletter down and starting from scratch.

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Tiktok, looking at it as a potential author platform. I’m doing a lot of research into what appears to be working for other people. Don’t know yet if I’m going to make the jump, but I may be turning more of my focus over there. Again, starting from scratch but potentially doing it better this time.

I’ll continue with my newsletter. But I’m pretty sure that come the first of the year, the grand experiment of doing a newsletter every week will be over, and I’ll move back to twice a month again. Stay tuned!

Hey - did you know that I have a new book coming out in November? It's another cozy fantasy, in the same vein as A Dragon's Guide to Killing Gods (And Other Lies).

Ice & Berries is a cozy fantasy tale of friendship, work, and going out into the world. Oh, and snow cones!

It's available for pre-order through the KRP shop, and will be delivered on November 10th. It's also available for pre-order though all the regular retailers, but it won't be delivered from them until November 21st.

(If you're going to Author Nation, it will be available there as well)

It's September! The new book on sale is exclusively available on the Knotted Road Press site at this time. It's the complete box set, all three books, of the Forgotten Gods Trilogy by me! A haunting dark epic fantasy trilogy with stirring battles and unique magic.
