I spent this last week in Portland, helping my niece. She lives about 3 hours away. For those of you who are new, my niece had brain surgery in April, 2024. I stayed with her for six weeks, then did a lot of long-distance care giving for months, as well as going down to stay with her for a week every month. In September of this year, she got her first job post-surgery. I went down to help out in October and November, and will go down again in January.
In addition to trying to make a living on mere minimum wage, her dog was recently diagnosed with cancer. I had to make an emergency trip down there this summer to sit with her when she got the diagnosis from the oncologist. I had to change the dates of this latest trip because the dog had surgery. I figure my next emergency trip will be when he no longer has any good days left.

He's a golden doodle, and normally about 110 pounds of goofiness and love. She has trained him very well, plus he’s a smart dog. We’ll find out his newest prognosis on Wednesday.
We had to isolate him in a clean environment due to his stitches. I woke up one morning and took a picture of him sleeping. Obviously, this is a very stressed out dog.

ION, I’m going to be very busy these next few weeks. I will prepare paper this week for marbling later. I mix up some alum (potassium aluminum sulfate), spray it onto the paper sheets I’m going to use, then let it dry. The alum will help the marble colors stick to the paper, creating much more vibrate results.
However, the alum will not last forever on the paper. I will need to do the marbling ideally within twenty-four hours, but I could wait as long as four days. This means I’ll probably apply the alum on Tuesday and do the marbling on Thursday. Be prepared for pictures of the pretty!

I realized this morning that I’m really happy. I’m very much looking forward to my life and all the busy/crazy times coming up. I don’t want to say that I’d lost my joy, but my enthusiasm had certainly dulled. It’s really nice to wake up and have a whole bunch of things that I’m really looking forward to, both things that I’m doing as well as events.
I’m trying to schedule myself out for a bunch of events. I’m having to look much further in advance than I realized. I’m right now trying to schedule things for June and July of next year. That’s a LOT of lead time.
But I think I can do this. And have fun with it.

Rosey may, perhaps, be a little upset when the hacker that Jamaal hires steals the alien data core that he was supposed to decode.
Of course, he has a secret lair on a volcano. What super villain wouldn’t?
Breaking into this stronghold is only the start of the “juvenile delinquency” that Rosey and the gang must take on to get it back.

Alien Codex—the second book in the Live Alien Contact series—is full of cons, capers, and misdirection.
