Welcome to my newsletter, for those of you who are new.
This week is my once-a-month spotlight of a book I’ve written.
As I had a new book come out last week, I’m going to talk about it. Alien Codex, the second book in the Live Alien Contact series.
The first book in this series, Alien Wreck, has a lot of tension. This second book still has some exciting, action-filled scenes, but it’s more about the cons that the crew has to pull to regather all the pieces of the puzzle.
And of course there’s a lot of opinion and colorful commentary about said con jobs. Particularly from Dennis, who’s the AI who runs Rosey’s starship.
Dennis is a frustrated interior designer. Rosey gives him a budget for the work he wants to do, as well as rules about areas he can change (most of the ship) and areas he can’t (like the helm or her workroom). He’s also a bit fussy.
One of the people that Rosey et al are chasing has his lair on an island with a live volcano (like all the best supervillains do these days). Dennis is appalled at their disregard for the flitter that they’re taking down. Don’t they have any idea what that volcanic ash will do to the engines? Let alone all the grit that will get stuck in the air filters!
Dennis has his own arc in the novel. When Princess Jun Ogawa steps aboard, he upgrades himself to a royal escort. And yes, after the aliens arrive he gives himself further, fancier titles, but that’s the subject of a different newsletter.
Dennis is a spaceship, which in the nomenclature of this series, means he has hyperdrive and can easily travel vast distances between systems.
Then there are spaceships, which don’t have hyperdrive and just generally travel inside a single system.
The last class is a flitter, which travels from ships in space down to planetary surfaces and back again.
There are other classifications of ships, like the speedships that Rosey builds, that are for racing. The military has its own ships, like the Kollective Defender. Which, according to Dennis, are such an eyesore. Big, square, clunky things with no aesthetic sense.
This is part of the fun of science fiction—getting to name and categorize things. And figuring out what to name common tech. For example, what is the device that people use for communication? I’ve had great fun over the years coming up with different variations of these devices. The Long Run series uses an iStick. In this series, they tend to be implants.
Anyway, I enjoyed writing this series a lot. Hopefully you’ll enjoy reading it!

In other news, okay, yes, I’m going to talk about knitting. I’m currently doing a colorwork sweater for me.
I’m practicing a lot of things with this sweater. For example, I’ve never done a large colorwork pattern like this. It’s been fun learning to knit in a new fashion. I’ve messed up the tension some at the beginning, so it’s a little puffy. I’m hoping that at least some of that will be addressed when I block the sweater.
You’ll see two lines going up the front of the piece. I’m knitting this piece in the round, but I plan on making a cardigan of it once I finish. So I’ll cut the front apart between those lines.
At this point, the rest of the body to the waist is all the dark green color. I’ll have another couple of inches of colorwork that I’ll add before the rib at the bottom. Then I’ll have to do the sleeve.
Since I’m also crocheting decorations for my sales table, it’s really going to take a lot of time to finish the sweater. But that’s okay. I’m enjoying it. And the next colorwork piece I do will be even better!
That’s it for me for today. Please let me know if you have any questions about my books or my craftwork. Or let me know what you’re working on!

Daring starship captain? Check.

Best friend/deadly assassin? Check.
Rosey may, perhaps, be a little upset when the hacker that Jamaal hires steals the alien data core that he was supposed to decode.
Of course, he has a secret lair on a volcano. What super villain wouldn’t?
Breaking into this stronghold is only the start of the “juvenile delinquency” that Rosey and the gang must take on to get it back.
Alien Codex—the second book in the Live Alien Contact series—is full of cons, capers, and misdirection.
Be sure to read the rest of this finished series!

Available from the KRP store Oct 10. Generally available Oct 21.

The Universal Trading Cartel has Judit trapped.
Her choices stink: prison down on a planet, or serving the Cartel as another peon in their soul-crushing machine.
Her savior? An alien trying to break the stranglehold the Cartel has over all trade.
Her job? Command an experimental spaceship containing more secrets than anyone will ever imagine, let alone believe. Enough to get them all killed if the truth ever comes out.
Her shadowy boss calls it Project Nemesis.
She’ll be free of the Cartel or die trying.
Project Nemesis—the first book in the space opera series The Long Run—takes you on a wild ride with aliens, corporate espionage, and, oh yeah, lots of snark.
Be sure to read all the books in this completed series!
