Hello again—

It’s that time of month! (No, not like that. Really, people.) Time when I get to tell you about the current book that’s being released.

This month, it’s Alien Encounter, the third novel in the Live Alien Contact series.

I will try to keep this as spoiler free as possible. But I am going to talk about events in the book. I don’t consider them spoilery, but more like Chekov’s gun.

In both book one and book two, Rosey has talked about doing martial arts. She focuses on weapons forms because according to the research I did before I started writing this series, weapons forms are better for training quick reflexes. As a racer, that was what Rosey wanted.

In addition, in both of the previous books, I’ve mentioned Rosey’s wrench kata. In order to qualify for at least one of her black belts, she had to develop her own martial arts form.

For her, it didn’t make any sense to do a sword form. Having swords laying around her workshop just wasn’t practical. Same with staves.

Wrenches, though…Who was going to look twice at a wrench in a workshop where spaceships were being built?

So there happen to be a bunch of wrenches in Rosey’s workshop. Big wrenches, all easy to grab.

When she gets attacked in book three, of course the first thing she’s going to grab is a wrench and to apply her wrench kata.

I cannot tell you how much fun I had writing that scene. It was something I’d been looking forward to for months, a scene that I knew was coming and was delighted when it arrived.

If you’re interested in the wrench kata, it’s partially based off the exercises my husband does with a ten-pound mace. But really, it’s just there because it was fun.

Alien Encounter is available at all retailers now!
ION, I figured I’d show you the latest progress I’m making on my colorwork sweater.

I don’t like pull-over sweaters. I much prefer cardigans. However, doing colorwork flat, that is, going back and forth and not in the round, is much more difficult.

So I decided to knit this sweater traditionally, that is, in the round, then to steek it, that is, to cut it open and transform it into a cardigan.

I watched several videos on how to steek something. Looks deceptively easy. It isn’t. I’ve now knit a couple of swatches to practice the steeking so that I’ll do it right when I actually cut my sweater open.

Hopefully in the next week I’ll finish this sweater. After I do that, I’ll knit a couple of ribbed edges that I’ll attach. I can’t knit the ribbing until I know how wide to make it.

These pictures show both the front and the back of the sweater. I left an area without the pattern in the front, where I’ll cut it open. The back shows the continuous pattern.

One more newsletter before the end of the year. I’ll have written 50 this year. I think that’s kind of awesome, personally.

Please reply to this newsletter and let me know if there’s anything that you’d like to hear more of, or less of, or to just tell me how you’re surviving this holiday season.

I hope that your holidays are as stressfree as possible.

Cheers!

Leah

Rosey just wants to go home after all her adventures. She has racing ships to build! And she wants to find out more about the materials of the original alien wreck.

However, there are others who want to stop not just her, but all of her friends.

A momentary retreat may be the best way to survive.

What she finds on that path changes everything.

Alien Encounter—the third novel in the Live Alien Contact series—tests Rosey and the others: their endurance, their knowledge, their friendship, and their trust of one other as they meet the unknown.
