Good morning.

We’ve had a lot of rain, which is unusual for us in August. Today, though there’s sunshine again. It’s supposed to dry out and be extra warm again by the end of the week.

Last week, we were visited by a bear. Or at least one of my bird feeders was. We don’t get bears often, maybe once or twice a year. I am grateful that it only attacked the feeder on the hill, and didn’t go after the lower feeder.

Though the bear completely destroyed two of my bird feeders, at least it didn’t break the humming bird feeder, which is glass.

Here are pictures of one of the feeders. Those dents in the plastic? Those are bear teeth.
In other news, my niece finally appears to be on the upswing. This was the best visit I’ve had all year. She’s healing, and though it isn’t a steady course, I’m hopeful that things are going to start getting better.

Before I left, I started having problems with that stupid Northern Flicker again. I taped a brown paper bag that had been cut open across the window that he likes to tap at. (I’m going to need to get the screen replaced because he’s completely ruined it.) Blaze tried various things to keep the bird away from the front sliding glass door.

This morning I took it up a notch. Put a piece of wood across the bottom of the door, so he can’t sit there and look at himself or tap on the glass. Put a couple of aluminum foil pans on top of the wood so he can’t sit on it. Put up clear tape along the edge of the screen door so he can’t fly up and attach himself there, so he can tap at the glass.

So far, these measures seem to be working. I’m not looking forward to tomorrow morning, when I’m sleeping again at TH2 and he comes tapping at 5 AM.

Normally, I love all my birds. But this particular Northern Flicker has become my nemesis.

Cheers!

Leah
