Hello all –

What a difference a week makes!

Originally, the forecast claimed that we wouldn’t start to get snow until the morning. They were wrong. We started to get snow Thursday night, and then it snowed all night, as well as for most of Friday.

The problem was that the snow was wet and heavy. It weighed down the tree branches as well as the smaller trees.

We live at the top of a hill, up a long driveway. I was very, VERY happy that I made the decision to drive the truck down to the bottom of the hill Friday morning.

However, it took over thirty minutes to get there, as I kept having to stop and Blaze and I would have to clear out either branches that had been forced over or downed trees.
Trees bent over with heavy snow
Then, of course, we lost power about 9 AM Friday morning. Fortunately, we’re prepared for that. We have a wood-burning stove in the main house, and it keeps the living area very warm and toasty. Because of the number of windows in the main house, we can read during the day as well.

So I spent much of Friday reading and doing research for writing projects. So did Blaze.
Inside the main house, Blaze reading, snow outside
But it kept snowing. All day Friday. We made our way to the bottom of the hill to the truck a couple of times to drive into town for food and connectivity. Again, taking about 30 minutes every trip to clear the driveway.
Falling snow in the backyard
Friday night, I drove back up the hill so that I could pack the truck and go to a live sales event Saturday morning. That was a really good idea. I cut through the snow, packing it down and making good ruts for the truck. Though it continued to snow all of Friday night, the amount of accumulation slowed down significantly.

All-in-all, we figure we got between six to eight inches up here. The snow easily is mid-calf on me.

We packed up the truck Saturday morning, early, then drove back into town for breakfast because we still didn’t have any power. I was at an event all day. We got power back around noon on Saturday.
My table at the event in Kent
Unless we get some warm rain, it’ll be a while before the snow goes away. As I mentioned, we have a lot of downed trees and branches to clean up. The birdfeeder that’s up the hill from TH2 got taken out by a branch. There’s a huge branch next to TH2 that I’m just lucky landed there and not on my house. After the snow goes down we’ll clear out the downed trees from the paths under the trees.

The sales event was fun. I’m glad I went. It was in Kent, which by the end of Saturday, had no snow. Driving back across from Kent, I didn’t start seeing signs of snow until I reached the Lake Meridian area. However, it was slight at that point, and only in shaded areas. Once I hit Maple Valley, there was a lot of accumulation on the ground everywhere.

Hopefully if you’re in the area, you survived the storm as well! Or whatever weather you experienced this week.

Cheers!
Leah

City of Angels cover
Los Angeles. The city that never sleeps.

And neither does crime.

These stories take inspiration from those hard-boiled detectives of yore, with broken noses and steely eyes. The white knight you could rely on because the rest of the world had soured like a rotten apple. Even if he (or she) didn’t follow the rules.

Or maybe because they broke them in order to see justice done.

Come see what the MCM Syndicate has to say about these types of “heroes” as we enter our seventh year of publication.
