One of the things that I adore about living in the Pacific Northwest are the roses. Sure, there are a lot of the hothouse variety that look like what you might think of is a “normal” rose. Then there are the single-petal variety, the rosa rugosa, which grows everywhere around here.
Depending on the location and how much sun the plant gets, we’re already starting to see blossoms.
Sure, while the flowers are pretty enough, it’s the scent that makes them so attractive. Just walking by you’ll get a strong scent of rose.
So here are some pictures of wild roses growing around here.

When my husband was mowing last year, he realized that there was a rose plant starting up along the side of the house. It was maybe six inches tall by the end of summer last year. It’s almost three feet tall now. Don’t know if it’s in the right place to flower, but I’m hoping that it will.

I didn’t do much writing this week. Instead, I focused on building our Shopify store.
Over the years, I’ve done a lot of work in WordPress, as well as with WooCommerce. So I’m familiar with the concepts and the various parts that you want on a web site as well as a web store.
Shopify has all these pieces, they’re just labeled differently. And located in different places.
I’m pretty happy with what I’ve done so far. The store is coming along nicely. I had been thinking about making it live this next week. Then Shopify announced that they are pushing out their next big update next week. So…I’m going to wait until after they do that before I do some sort of soft launch.
One of the things that I continue to focus on is approaching situations that are potentially frustrating or stressful as challenges instead of being intimidated. I will admit that when I saw the Shopify email regarding the upgrade, I took a deep breath then started laughing about the “challenge!” that this was going to represent.
I’m pretty excited that I just this morning solved one of the big problems I was facing. Took a few days and a lot of experimenting. But I figured it out, and that takes me one more step closer to having the shop that I want.
In addition, there are a couple of code customizations that I’m having a developer do. One is to automatically change the “Buy” button to “Preorder now!” if the release date is greater than the present date. The other is to create a “New Releases” page.
It seems strange to me that currently, Shopify doesn’t have a built-in solution for checking on release dates. That’s just too much coding, I suspect.
Anyway. Possibly by the next newsletter I’ll be able to share the new store with you. Or maybe it’ll be two weeks.
I hope that you’re continuing to learn and grow!

Chocolates and Truffles and Bon Bons, O My!
Shar Opalbender hates her life.
Okay, maybe that’s a bit strong. Emo, even.
Despite her Dwarven heritage, and her family’s expectations, Shar finds no joy in faceting, setting, or polishing gemstones.
What better way to prove herself to her family (and herself) than to enter, and win, the Realms’ renowned contest, Chocolates Galore!
And maybe, just maybe, with some magic, luck, and a little help from her friends, Shar also can discover the true meaning of life.
If there is one beyond chocolate.
Come enjoy this lovely cozy fantasy with low stakes, delicious chocolates, lots of breaking of the fourth wall, and utter silliness.

A cozy fantasy tale about ice, fire, love, and snow cones!
When El the Ice Elf asks Mara the fire elemental to marry her, she expects an immediate YES!
However, a distinct maybe hangs between them.
Not due to a lack of love, but a lack of tradition.
The Elves have oodles of ceremonies to choose from.
As a fire elemental, Mara is singular. She doesn’t know any other fire elementals. She has no true kin. She does want to get married…but the ceremony has to have meaning for both of them.
El vows to go with Mara to the ends of the world to find rites for Mara to call her own.
Follow this unlikely couple as they defined themselves, their rituals, and their love in the cozy fantasy sequel to The Ice Elf & The Snow Cone.
