I’ve been at the NINC (Novelists Incorporated) convention for the last week, down in Florida. It’s been a marvelous convention. I learned A LOT.
However.
Last year was our first year attending NINC. It was revolutionary in terms of what we learned, and how we changed our business. We also met some really neat people.
This year felt more evolutionary. These are the tweaks that I need to do here, some adjustments there, and so on. I spent more time networking, meeting and talking with people this year.
Will we come back to the NINC conference? Absolutely. Will it be next year? Ummmm, that depends on a whole bunch of factors, such as sales next year, etc. We’ll see.
One of the talks I went to talked was about figuring out what is your ideal life, the big picture stuff, not what you want to achieve this year, but over the next ten years. Where do I want to be, what do I want to be doing.
I’ve been taking a long walk on the beach every morning. I spent some time thinking about what I wanted. I have a pretty good idea now of where I want to be. No idea how to get there, but I’m really thinking about it now.
Part of that ideal life is being able to get up and just go walk in the morning. While I love living on the property, I still miss being able to easily walk, and not have to drive somewhere. I anticipate that at some point, we’ll move back into the city, and I’ll get that part of my ideal life again.
One of the tweaks that I’m going to be making in the immediate term is to my newsletter. I won’t change the chatty portion – that’s working well. People seem to like that a lot. I get a huge open rate on that newsletter.
But I have very few people who open and read the release newsletter. I realize now that my problem is that I’m not chatty enough. It needs to be the semi-chatty newsletter, not the release newsletter. I’m actually looking forward to the challenge of that, and how I can personalize it. I’ll announce what I’m doing to my newsletter in my next newsletter.
I know, I’m just supposed to make changes. I’m not supposed to tell people about it. I figure my readers would appreciate it though.
And I think that’s about it. If you want to learn more about Florida, or about any of my upcoming trips (like Port Townsend in October, Guatemala next year, etc.) you should sign up for my Patreon. Link in the second comment. First comment links will be to my newsletter, which you should also sign up for. (^_^)
