We had 17 head of elk visit us last night at dinnertime. Either three or four males, the rest females. Some of the females seemed gravid, though we don’t know for certain. The lead of the pack was a 10 point buck who stood there posing, to show everything his magnificence. The spike buck had two points, each about 8-10″ long. Then there was just a young thing, who had mere nubs poking out of his fur on the top of his head.

It was an amazing show for about an hour as they ambled through the yard, munching. There were also three younger elk who acted like dorks, running after each other because, you know, dorks.
