This book has an interesting history.
I had a series of events, or life rolls as we call them, happen back in 2005-2006. I stopped writing for a while. I didn’t have writer’s block: there just were no words.
I came out of it in 2007, doing a series of writing prompts from “A Writer’s Book of Days” by Judy Reeves. (http://amzn.to/2whv1YA) The goal was to “prime the pump” and get me back into writing. After about six weeks, I got a prompt that led to a novel, which while I was planning/world building/figuring out, I determined was actually a grand epic trilogy.
Because at that time I still believed the myths, I took a year or so to write each novel. (It took me less than that, but I didn’t want to admit it back then.)
The three books were, well, broken. The first, “Harp of Stars” was okay, but not great. The second, “Harp of Clouds” was completely broken. The third, “Harp of Fire” was less broken, but still not great.
The only way I could have saved those novels would have been to rewrite them from scratch. I didn’t want to do that.
So instead, I put them to the side, started focusing and writing new things, faster, better, with more practice. (The novel I wrote immediately after that, “The Clockwork Fairy Kingdom”, was considerably better. And I believe I continue to improve.)
But I always wanted to do something with the world I’d created for the three harp novels. Eventually, I figured out that I needed to take the same world and figure out what happened 1000 years later.
And the new book, “The Harps of the Six Kingdoms”, was born.
It feels so satisfying to get this book out there, out of my head and out into the world. I love the richness and depth of the start of this book, and how fast the pace turns.
I’d intended originally to write three new novels. However, my brain said no, these are novellas. So the novel is composed of three novellas, White Harp, Red Harp, Green Harp.
