Today I was thankful for kitty drugs, Google maps, hotel ice machines, and other assorted things.
Though Kiera wasn’t as calm today as she was yesterday, she’s still much more calm this trip than she was last trip. She insisted on some breaks today, meowing incessantly until I stopped the car and let her out of her carrier. She’s happy to be in the hotel room tonight, exploring a lot, complaining some as well. Tomorrow she’ll hide when I want to go, as she did today, but that’s okay. We’ll see how she does in the car.
Last night I stopped for the evening on the far side of San Antonio (in Seguin.) This morning, I was trying to decide whether to take the loop around the city, or drive through it. Google Maps with traffic view to the rescue! Traffic was stopped on the loop — drove through the city with barely any traffic.
Last week, I tripped and fell. Twisted my left ankle and scraped up my right hand. Had a couple of days of painful typing, and the bottom of my foot hurt, but that was it. Yesterday, while driving, it started feeling as though my left shoe was strapped too tightly around my ankle, and that ankle started to hurt. By the time I reached the hotel last night, my right ankle was still ankle shaped, while my left — wasn’t. It wasn’t quite the size of a baseball, but it was very swollen, and really I didn’t have any ankle-shape remaining. Looked mostly round.
So yes, I am thankful for hotel ice machines, that enabled me to ice my ankle both last night and tonight. It’s swollen again after another day of driving — I figure I am at least staying off of it, even though I can’t really elevate it during the day. It doesn’t really hurt, except when I walk on it. Mostly it’s just swollen.
Today I saw hills. Not really mountains, not yet. But hills. I can even see them outside the hotel room. Makes me happy.
It was cloudy for much of the day. Though there was some rain, I figured the cloud-cover helped keep it cool It’s been cool most of the day as well.
Tonight I’m in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I hope to make it most of the way through New Mexico and Arizona tomorrow. We’ll have to see how often the kitty demands we take a break, how traffic is, etc.
I hope everyone is having a marvelous week! I must admit that though I’m tired, the drive isn’t too much of a drag yet. It’s only been two days however. We’ll see how I’m feeling after it’s been four days.
