Heaven

Recently realized that I don’t really have the concept of heaven in my trilogy. There’s a hell, that’s more of a ‘working through shit’ place (that characters visit. More than one hell, more than one character.) There are the palaces of the gods, their courts, which again, characters visit. And there’s the concept of reincarnation — more for Witches than for people.

But there isn’t the concept of heaven. Just — a secession from life, from pain.

I’m thinking there needs to be more, maybe more of a concept of reward? “Moral” basically means “aligned with your god/doing the will of your god/being one with your god”. So maybe just a touch more, of working your way through hell to become one with your god? I don’t want to introduce the concept of an individual continuing on after death in some kind of afterlife. That doesn’t fit their morality.

  1. I would agree – that if you’re going to have a hell, there should be a heaven – OR, some sort of explanation in the cosmogony as to why the cessation of life altogether would be considered heaven.
