Finished chapter nine today. Handwriting it, that is. Still have to type up these three chapters (7, 8, 9.) I’m disappointed with myself, and how far behind schedule I am. I just didn’t write a lot in August. (To be fair, I did work for the day job almost every weekend in August, and quite a few in July as well.) On the other hand, I’m very pleased with where this novel is going. One of the things I’m really enjoying is the length I have for exploring my themes. A story is as long as it needs to be, and the story that I’m telling couldn’t be told shorter. I need three novels to explore as I am. Delve deep. Travel more than one path to the mountain.
I keep having ideas about short stories set in this world, following some of the other characters. The king returning from the desert. Leading the search for the prince. The wizard learning to work in the veil (the land between the gods and the Six Kingdoms.) All these incidents are merely referred to in the novel, but they’re complete stories in my head. I think it would be fun to do an anthology of these — in my copious spare time, of course.
