Back in the saddle again

I wrote tonight.

Let me state that again.

I wrote tonight. It’s really the first time since August sometime that I’ve put pen to paper like this. I did about 6 1/2 pages. Generally, for me, ,about 5 1/2 pages is about 1000 words. If I’m staying true to form, tonight was 1000+ words. Basically, the first scene of chapter three of the new novel — Harp of Light.

I started slowly. I wrote half a page, then crossed it out and rewrote it. It took time for me to get going, to gain momentum and speed. I probably wrote the last couple of pages in the same amount of time I wrote the first half a page.

I don’t know how to describe what happened. But, somehow, I’ve figured it out, how to flick that switch again. I’ve thought about it a lot. It isn’t based on mood or chemicals or situation — though I do have to find my quiet, deep inside. Once I find it, look out. There’s no limit. Or rather, the only limits I have are ones I place on myself. I feel so expansive. I don’t know how else to describe it. I’m more myself when I get to write like this. Not just living up to my potential, but passing beyond it.

Oh — and there’s joy. Such amazing, marvelous, wonderful joy. As much as I like re-visioning and polishing and making every word as perfect as I can, there’s nothing like this feeling, of jumping off that cliff and watching my wings form.

  1. I know exactly how you feel! The switch flipped for me earlier this week as well…maybe it’s the change of seasons.

    Congrats on writing again…
