It’s official. I’m officially now working on this new novel “Harp of Stars” and nothing else. It’s been a month and I’m still completely obsessed with it.

So obsessed, in fact, that I went to a coffee shop tonight and started handwriting chapter four. Now — I rarely if ever write at night. But for this novel, I find I’m often working in the evenings. I hand wrote about 2000 words tonight.

I don’t have a good hook yet — that one or two sentences that I can tell people in a hurry to give them an idea of what this book is about. I did come up with a small blurb though, that I sent to my agent today.

The Six Kingdoms have a delicate balance of power: six kings backed by six Witches. Magic is forbidden to mere mortals, yet more and more of it is trickling back into the world. What happens when a mysterious harp calls more Witches into power? What is the right choice for the guardian of the harp? To destroy the harp and the Witches, stripping the land and its people of magic? Or to awaken everyone to their power?

As I think I’ve said before, this feels like a bigger book to me. First of all, it truly has a cast of thousands. It has four subplots going on currently, in addition to the main plot (I may end up cutting one or two of these.) It’s a long book. It’s such a rich world for me. I’m just — relishing it. Relishing living in it, fleshing it out more.

Anyway. I’m at the blathering stage now — so tired and drained and yet feeling so powerful and so good from writing so intensely.

I’m looking forward to doing it again tomorrow morning. I worked really hard at the day job today, and will have to do the same tomorrow, though I know that all I’ll want to do is write.

  1. Good for you, girlfriend!

Lately, I’ve regressed to writing in longhand first. In pencil. Weirdly, I’ve also discovered that my output this way is four times what it was previously. Go figure that one. Hurray for writer’s cramp, I guess.

    Go, girl, go!

    • You go too!

I understand about the amazing output that I’ve managed by hand. I’ve *never* written this much, this consistantly, on the computer.

Plus, writing by hand lets me indulge in my other weakness. . . good pens. I switch between four different ones while I’m writing. It’s sheer heaven.

Glad to hear that you’re writing as well!
