I have a journal from when I was eight years old that starts off with, "When I grow up, I want to be a writer."

Though I've always considered myself a writer, I didn't really get serious about it until a few years ago. Part of that was figuring out how to live a writer's life, arrange my life to support my writing habit. The other part was finding the courage to live my dream. This is the biggest dream I've ever had, and if I start living it, well, what would happen if I failed?

I finally realized that I wouldn't "fail." There's no such thing as failure. Failing just means more work. When it comes down to it, success is actually more frightening, because that means re-definition.

I do technical writing as my day job. I work for Oracle, out in CA. I'm a geek. I don't do application or marketing materials. I do the really technical stuff.

When I'm not reading, writing, or goofing off, I also hike, work out, drink single malt scotch, do Tai Chi (a modified Yang style of Tai Chi, as taught by Master Chen.) and in general, have a good time.

I hope you've enjoyed my web page.
