Expanding World

Moving note of this evening: the last time I moved I searched iTunes and the internet for the music I still had on cassette tapes, to see if I could replace the tapes with digital. I failed for the most part.

Tonight, I went through this same exercise. However, I was mostly successful. A bunch of music from around the world (India, Kashmir, Hungary, Ireland) is all available now online. (Some of it via iTunes, some of it through artists’ web sites.)

I am worried about money re: the house (I know it’s all going to be fine, but still. Worried.) However, I deemed that it was okay to spend a little money tonight to get this music that I’ve carried with me for decades and really wanted to hear again. Plus, I’ve cut down what I’m carrying from one place to the next!

Art = Home

I’m not sure when I came to that conclusion, that art on the walls meant home. But I did, and it was quite some time ago.

Today’s moving realization: I took most of the art off the walls in my living room. Though the place is still packed with boxes and furniture and such, now it looks empty to me. It’s no longer home, just a transient place, until I make the next home.

I got rid of a bookcase today. I’m going to put my curios case up for sale on Craigslist next. Make another trip to Salvation Army with things to give away. Keep deconstructing this place, hollowing it out until it’s merely bones again, for the next people to fill and feather and make home.

As some of you may or may not know, one of the decisions I came to while in NOLA was that I would buy a house when I came back to Seattle.

HOUSE ACHIEVED.

Yes, it went quickly. It was the first house I saw. (I bought my condo the same way.) I came back on May 5th — not even two weeks have passed. I’ve already had the inspection and the house passed with flying colors.

I anticipate LOTS of house talk in the next few months. I will be having a painting party toward the end of June. Next year, if it’s possible, I’d like to host a Clarion West Friday night party.

And now, for the most important part — Pictures!

Drove 14 hours yesterday to make it. Well. I was in the car about 14 hours, wasn’t driving the entire time, had to take many breaks for the kitty (and myself!) It was a beautiful drive yesterday through the mountains, going from N. California into Oregon.

The kitty was so happy to be home. She demanded skritches, as well as raced around like a crazy thing. This morning she came and laid on me in the early morning, purring loudly. When I reached for my phone, normally that would be enough to get her to move. Not this morning. She just readjusted herself so more of her was on me, very obviously letting me know that I was not getting up yet, not until she was good and ready.

I will have more pictures, and more to say, later. Need to go eat and start unpacking.

Taken sometime after crossing the Oregon border, Mount Shasta in the mirror.

Today I was thankful for kitty drugs, Google maps, hotel ice machines, and other assorted things.

Rambling
