Moving ahead

Though I had a lot to write this weekend, it felt really good. I ended up doing more than I’d planned, and it just flowed again. I’m very please. But now I really need to do more plotting. Stupid messy center of the book.

Here’s the official word count:

29,913 / 60,000

The word count back up higher again because chapter 7 turned out to be a longer chapter, balancing things out again.

This week I have to finish chapter 7, as well as write chapter 8 & 9. I know things that need to happen but I just don’t know how yet. *sigh*

In other news, I continue to be a little crazy. But ya’ll already knew that, right? Lately, I haven’t been getting my exercise in — sure, I’ve been sick and injured, etc. But still, I should be doing more. So I signed up for a boot camp type thing that meets at Volunteer Park, Monday through Thursday, early in the morning, for the next four weeks. This means I’ve given up my morning writing time. As there have been very few mornings when I’ve actually written, at least during the week, I don’t think this is going to leave me at a great disadvantage. I really will have to write every night, though, so I don’t always end up cramming in thousands of words on the weekends.

Part of why I’m doing this is for the Clarion West Write a Thon. If ya’ll want to sponsor me, please do so here:

I made curry tonight from one of my favorite cookbooks 5 Spices, 50 Dishes. While the curry was good, the recipe says that it gets better as it ages, and I believe it. It tasted — I don’t know — light. I served it over cauliflower rice. Yum. It was a lot of work, however. I’m not convinced I’ll try it again on a weeknight. I’m pretty sure I’ll try making curry again sometime though.

I finished typing up what I’d written over the weekend. It turned out I was a little shy of my goal of 20,000. However, I honestly feel it’s good enough.

19,683 / 60,000

I did some work for the day job today. That also felt good.

Now I have to go clean up my excessively messy kitchen. Then it’ll be time to write at least the next scene.

I am officially declaring victory.

7000 words, baby.

I haven’t typed up all those words yet. I’ll start tonight, probably not finish until tomorrow morning.

Still. I only managed about 1000 on Friday, less than that on Saturday, and the rest today.

The main reason I’m doing this is as part of the Clarion West write-a-thon. If ya’ll want to sponsor me there, and it’s for a good cause, click here:

On the way to Jaycon. Had to be in the Seattle office for the day job yesterday, then went out to dinner then the Clarion West party. Only managed 1000 words, but I’m okay with that. Wrote another 800 it so this AM. Will write more tonight. This morning I wrote the scene I wanted to write, not the scene I’d planned on writing. Made me very happy. Planting the seeds for the moral peril later in the book. Love torturing characters. Allows me to be nicer to everyone else.

So — I thought I had a higher word count than I did. I must have added something together twice. Because though I wrote 1700 words yesterday, the official word count is up only a couple hundred.

Damn.

13,110 / 60,000

So — if I’m to make my deadline for the week, I need to write 7000 words between now and Sunday night. A little more than 2000 words a day for three days.

Can I do it? If it wasn’t these three days in particular, I’d say sure. No problem.

As it is, it’s going to be tight. I have social things planned. Dinner and the Clarion West party tomorrow, driving to Portland for Jaycon Saturday. Working day job on Sunday.

Oh I’ll still make it. Too stubborn not to. Just — damn. Really thought I was further along.
